At yesterday’s meeting we split up into two groups, Education and Outreach, and worked on our separate projects.

The Education people got a lot of work done on the PowerPoint presentation that will be shared around campus in order to educate students about the link between meat and environmental degradation.
If you want to see the presentation — thanks, Darshan, for the graphics work — you can download it here. It’s still a work in progress, so it’d be great if you left a comment and let us know what you think.
As part of Outreach, we brainstormed some ideas for “shock campaigns” on campus, one of which involves sitting a cow (well, a person dressed like one) in front of a large pile of grain — because ONE dairy cow eats 50-100 pounds of grain each day! — and having “starving” people lie around the area without access to the food.
We hope to raise the question: “Why are we filtering so much food through livestock when there are hungry people in our country and around the world who could be eating it directly?”
Thanks to those of you who have come to our meetings and helped us out, it means a lot. We could use all the help we can get on these campaigns and coming up with new ideas, so I hope you will continue attending. If you have not come to a meeting yet, I hope you will come to our next one on October 22.
In the meantime, we will continue our Meatless Mondays campaign and our infamous vegan potlucks! There’s a potluck this Sunday, October 12. Hope to see you there!

enVeg is a University of Florida organization that encourages students to reduce their meat consumption in order to help the environment.
Because factory farming causes more climate change than cars, you can make a difference by choosing to eat vegan or vegetarian whenever possible. Learn more »
